Changing Tracks
“From the Darkness to the Light” is the experience in many lives transformed by God’s intervention, causing them to begin “Changing Tracks.” Although they come from different backgrounds and their conversions have taken place among differing circumstances, they all give thanks to Jesus Christ for having come to find them. They thank Him for having given meaning to their lives, for curing their deep wounds, for giving them happiness and for filling them with love. Sinéad was raised in a family which practiced the Catholic faith. However, after her mother was unable to respond to her question of why they went to Mass, her whole family stopped going to church and Sinéad --who was then in her teenage years-- began to explore the world. She became fascinated by the Gothic world and witchcraft, and her university roommate eventually ended up casting a spell on her. Many unfortunate things began to happen in her life, which led up to Sinéad speaking with a priest. After he prayed over her, Sinéad began her change of life. Shannon was born into a Catholic home, but her faith was not deep. Apart from going to Mass on Sundays, her family did not deepen in their faith. Without a relationship with Jesus, as she grew older, Shannon's faith stayed as a merely “social faith”. She became angry with Jesus when her cousin passed away despite her prayers for him, and consequently turned away from Him. When Shannon began university, she began to feel a deep sense of loneliness that brought her to the brink of depression. It was in this moment that Shannon encountered the Lord anew and experienced a real need to go to Mass and the sacraments to return to the life of grace. As a teenager, Megan Buckley's life revolved around ballet and dance. In this environment, she saw how dancers abused their bodies to conform to the standards of beauty expected of them. With regards to her faith, her family was Catholic but Megan did not have a personal relationship with Jesus because she had never had an encounter with Him. In college, Megan began to attend Protestant churches where she felt comfortable at first, but soon she began to realize that she was missing the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. Emily Kelly's life consisted of her friends, school, and sports. There was nothing else. When she was seventeen, she started partying a lot and living a double life: partying on Fridays and Saturdays and going to Mass on Sundays... until she stopped going to Mass. Lillianna Sieker grew up in a Protestant family. Following the conversions of her mother and her brother to Catholicism, she decided to join the Catholic Church. Thanks to a group of young Catholics, she began to grow in her faith. One day, she was deeply surprised to see these young Catholics stop what they were doing and fall on their knees as the Blessed Sacrament passed in front of them. It was surely the key moment of her conversion: the discovery of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
